You cannot upgrade to Adobe FreeHand CS3 but it is now discontinued and replaced by Adobe Illustrator CS4, a recommended program that was replaced by FreeHand MX.
I have run Freehand 9 on Vista for years, no problems. Tried it on Windows 7 and it seems fine. I just wonder if it will work on Windows 8.1?

There is no compatibility information regarding Freehand 9. However, if it's working in Windows 7, then it should work in Windows 8.1 as well. It's not a general rule, but most of the Windows 7 applications that don't have any drivers bundled are working just fine. Just make sure to run the installation as Administrator in order to give the application exclusive access to the system partition, registry (very important!!!), and file access.

I refuse to use illustrator! It is awful. I want my old program back, but am using a newer computer. Please help?
Forget it, you cant. Illustrater is fine and doesn't really take too long to get used to. Just go for it......

Save your file in Illustrator 8 format, then open directly in FreeHand MX.
