To change colors in Macromedia FreeHand MX, you can use the color mixer or the color swatch panel to select and apply colors to your artwork. For Microsoft Office Publisher 2003, you can use the color scheme or the formatting options to change colors of text, shapes, and other elements. Please ensure that you select the elements first, then choose the desired colors from the available options in each software.
You cannot upgrade to Adobe FreeHand CS3 but it is now discontinued and replaced by Adobe Illustrator CS4, a recommended program that was replaced by FreeHand MX.
I have run Freehand 9 on Vista for years, no problems. Tried it on Windows 7 and it seems fine. I just wonder if it will work on Windows 8.1?

There is no compatibility information regarding Freehand 9. However, if it's working in Windows 7, then it should work in Windows 8.1 as well. It's not a general rule, but most of the Windows 7 applications that don't have any drivers bundled are working just fine. Just make sure to run the installation as Administrator in order to give the application exclusive access to the system partition, registry (very important!!!), and file access.

Save your file in Illustrator 8 format, then open directly in FreeHand MX.
